A Little Bit About Us
One In A Melon Meals is the story of two Salemites that teamed up under the banner of one mission:
to bring fresh, locally sourced, sustainable and nutritious meals to Salem, Oregon’s Food Cart Scene.
Through adversity, a global pandemic, and economic woes One In A Melon Meals has found its way in the Salem Food Cart Scene.
One In A Melon Meals was founded by Johnny and Zach.
Johnny was born in Bend, OR.
Better employment opportunities had him making Salem, Oregon his home after college. He comes from a family background of restaurant owners. His mother, aunt and both his uncles started their own restaurants. Johnny’s mother was always a very health-conscious woman which impacted his idea to create affordable nutritious food in Salem, Oregon.
Throughout the 10 years Johnny has lived in Salem, he loved the wineries and restaurants around the area. If there is one thing the Willamette Valley was the best for, it’s the wineries and restaurants. Some of the best selections of the Pacific Northwest are found here. Johnny has made a regular hobby of being a Wino and a Foodie.
There was one thing that bothered Johnny about the wine and dine scene in Salem; the number of healthy options in town.
Zach had to make his own way in the world.
A youth of hardship and houselessness led him to leverage the strength only a community can offer. Working his way up local restaurants from Dish Machine Operator to Executive Chef, Zach managed to get a solid foot on the ground.
Due Zach’s experience with homelessness, he has manifested a strong will to help, feed, and motivate people. He’s often volunteering and participating in homelessness outreach.
In the process of searching for a roommate at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic he met real estate investor and small business owner Johnny Ieong.
During the time they spent living together, Zach would always prepare gourmet meals in the kitchen and Johnny would constantly complain about the limited healthy options around the Salem restaurant scene. At a friends birthday party their friend joked they should combine forces and make a food cart…. So they did!
Excited to serve you
